![]() ![]() Guesstimating playtime a bit based on Steam's tendency to inflate everything. Absolutely never checking out the books if they're anything like this. It is just dreck, the writing in this series. I don't want to play a bunch of dudebros dudebroing it up and being misogynistic numbskulls and living out the power fantasies of an aggressively horny hobbledehoy, nor do I want a forced Strong Female Lead written by creepy dorks who put her strength and will on a closely-held leash whenever she's not being used like a sex doll. ![]() For a story-driven series, it just continues to be abysmal. The weakest link, though, is that danged writing. The taiga was such a good departure and section! I loved most every minute of it and wish the whole game could've been more like that. I didn't expect that at all - much less that one chapter would be heavily influenced by Mad Max, the next by.I don't even know, but I never expected a part of these games to remind me of Spielberg's bizarre Peter Pan adaptation, of all things. Props to the strange pacing structure set around the seasons, with most of them bringing a new semi-open world to explore and a partially-contained story and tone. I still think the writing in this game is the same testosterone-fueled man-child fantasy BS as the last two games, but the world, my *god*, the world!! It's so fun to explore - there's so much detail to it - and it generally tends to push the writing to the background and just let you enjoy the atmosphere. ![]()
